Eric Weaknecht has spent his entire career serving the people of Berks County. He was born and raised in Berks County and currently lives in Lower Heidelberg Township with his wife and stepdaughter.
Eric started his career with the Berks County Sheriff's Office in 1984 as a deputy sheriff. He quickly proved his worth and was promoted to Assistant Chief Deputy Sheriff in charge of the Court Division in 1996. He was promoted again in 1999 to the position of Chief Deputy Sheriff, which he held until being elected as the Sheriff of Berks County in 2007. Sheriff Weaknecht has since been re-elected four times.
In 2012, Governor Tom Corbett appointed him to the Deputy Sheriff’s Education and Training Board. He advises the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency on the development and implementation of training programs for sheriffs and deputy sheriffs throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Governor Tom Wolf reappointed Eric who is currently serving as the board's chairman.
Eric is also an active member of the Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ Association and has served as secretary-treasurer since 2012. He has been unanimously re-elected every year since by the Pennsylvania Sheriffs.
